Heart Burn
Heartburn is commonly experienced as a burning sensation in the chest, often accompanied by acid regurgitation, discomfort while swallowing, or mild chest pain. This occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, irritating its lining and causing that characteristic burning feeling.
From a medical standpoint, heartburn may be linked to conditions such as GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), gastritis, peptic ulcers, hiatal hernia, esophagitis, gallbladder disease, or even acid reflux during pregnancy. It can also mimic certain cardiac symptoms, which is why understanding the root cause is essential.
According to Ayurveda, heartburn is primarily caused by an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, leading to excess heat and acidity in the digestive system. Factors such as irregular eating habits, stress, spicy or oily foods, and late-night meals can aggravate this condition.
